What have you accomplished this week?
Moments of crying, cooking, walking, best ice cream ever
This question came up this morning while doing some work in a copywriting course (The Copy Cure) that I am taking. Does anyone know Marie Forleo and Laura Belgray?
This question is not about pulling out ‘so called’ successes or doing something big. It’s about cultivating an appreciation for life and the moments we have.
One foot in front of the other. That’s accomplishment.
Anyway, it was a prompt from one of the course bonuses and intrigued my brain a little, so I thought I would answer the question myself. I kind of love to peruse my mind of what I’ve done over the last few days or week. I have a practice every few days where I write down what I did, saw, and felt. Then I write something I am grateful for or I’ll set an intention for the next day.
Also, I feel this is a good practice for my memory.
But maybe you’ll find something relatable or inspiring. Take it, leave it, comment your own, or share it.
I’m still very sad and crying over my cat, Janigo whom we lost just last Friday. I really don’t even want to talk about it or I’ll just start crying again. I’ve lost my dad, sister, and my cats Xavier and Janigo in the last 4 years. It’s a lot. I’ve learned a lot about living with grief, but that chat is for another day.
I made a delicious din: polenta crust, homemade pesto, corn off the cob, cherry tomatoes and feta. All baked in a pie plate. Serious overload of deliciousness.
I made a dreamy trip to the library and picked up
new cookbook What To Cook When You Don’t Feel Like Cooking!! Yep, it’s awesome. I think I bookmarked about 20 recipes so far.I adore library trips and that’s why I called it dreamy. Something I’ve put into practice is ‘trying before buying’ before I buy a book or cookbook. You can pretty much find any cookbook at the library if you have a good-size library system.
I also picked up Health Nut by Jess Damuk. This is definitely the type of food I make and love to eat. I think I’ll make the Lentil Loaf first. I heard her talk about this recipe on a podcast and it sounds great. One tip she emphasized was to use smoked soy sauce. I don’t even have that ingredient, but I’m going to
Buying both! I linked them in case you want to buy them too!
Walked in the rain, more than once this past week. It took 3 days to dry out my sneakers! I really don’t care what the weather is… I MUST WALK! If it’s a cold winter day, I wear layers. It’s like an innate pull for me. The mornings are for walks, jogs, or rucking.
I made it to the office this week. We were sent home during Covid and now I only go to the office on occasion. To be honest, it’s kind of nice to get dressed up and be in the human population again. WFH is awesome, but I need the social interaction mixed in.
We almost went to the New York State Fair last night, but my mind couldn’t fathom going on a work night. It’s a lot of fun - but the thought of getting there is a PITA. It is a HUGE and amazing fair and I love going, so we will go on the weekend when time isn’t an issue.
Do you go to your state or county fair? What’s your favorite thing about the fair?
For me, it’s the horticulture buildings and Peachey’s! Not the fruit! It’s a tiffany blue food truck that serves up the BEST glazed donuts of my life! I am praying they are at the fair again this year.
Last night we had date night by the river in town. We ordered takeout because we had our dog with us - we can’t leave him alone so unless we get a dogsitter, he comes with us. Why didn’t I take any pics!!!???
We walked through town and finally ended up at an ice cream stand where I had the best ice cream of my life! Have you tried Bee Sting? Holy moly! It’s made with vanilla pudding ice cream, graham crackers, and hot honey. The hot honey is a heat that is just barely enough to know it’s there (perfect for me who can’t handle spicy). You guys - it was the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted. I think the vanilla pudding put it over the top. It was so creamy with a purely indulgent vanilla taste.
I’m off for my morning jog.
What have you accomplished this week? It can be anything! I’d love to hear as I am a curious soul and love to hear about what everyone’s doing!
Until next time…
Cheers to a healthier and happier you!

Thanks for sharing, Melissa. I enjoy doing these kind of mental exercises.
One thing that I like to write in my notebook is the highlight of the day for each week of the month, in one short sentence.
This helps me have a bird's eye view of the most important moments of my week and month.
At the end of each year, I draw a timeline of the year and copy the most impactful events there.
This way I can appreciate more all the things I’ve accomplished and the events that impacted my life.
Ah, Marie Forleo👉🏽Ms. Everything is Figureoutable! I've heard good things about The Copy Cure. Big hugs to you re: Janigo! 💙 That polenta looks incredible ... is it from the Caroline Chambers cookbook?? You're not wrong-libraries are the dreamiest! I love your idea of trying before buying for cookbooks at the library. I'm mad I never thought of doing that before! Do you have any favorite walking gear/brands? I try to walk 10,000 steps a day.
