Weekends are lasting forever and I LOVE it: Cape Cod vibes, cheese + wine, donuts + a farmer's market by the lake
All of the above = dreamy weekends: a journal entry
Happy Sunday morning Substack friends! I like to think of you all as a friendly community. I think most people who read and write here feel the same.
This morning I was journaling in Effie (my writing app), thinking about what I experienced yesterday, as well as realizing last weekend’s musings felt like they happened so long ago.
I have been adding plenty of enjoyable activities into my days and appreciating the hell of those moments. It might be as simple as appreciating the way the sun is peeking through the leaves as I walk or ride my bike, or how beautiful the lake looks. A patch of flowers might catch my attention, so I take the beauty in for a few minutes.
It might be visiting a new place for the first time or eating something new from the bakery.
I am in awe so often by the littlest things. This ‘awe’ slows time down.
After I ended my journal entry, I thought myself “this might be fun to share on my Substack publication”. One of the reasons I have this pub is to share happiness, so… why not! I’ve never shared a journal entry-style post before. I have written about making weekends feel longer (read it here), but this post, I simply copied and pasted my journal entry after I had the idea to share it.
So, it is a little raw. I added images and some links. I hope it makes you smile and inspires you to enjoy each beautiful moment today and always.

Yesterday in the village of Liverpool I sat by the marina looking at the coolest houseboat while ordering a hunter-green Lululemon fanny pack for biking, hiking, and such. I love to take pics of everything that brings me joy.
I walked back to my car through that alleyway that reminds me of Cape Cod by the beach - the houses have that beachy vibe. That wooden siding that says “I live by the beach”. Big hydrangeas are falling into the alleyway. It was such a vaca vibe…. I wanted to plop down onto the little street and stay a while.
I biked the trails when I got home then made dinner - I just can't get the warm bruschetta right. I think I am adding too many extra ingredients while trying to be creative, but need to go back to the basics and always use Tuscan bread from Wegmans. I’ll try again and go back to my basic recipe. Here is my basic recipe, which I need to NOT deviate from.
Going back a week 👇
It was last weekend when we went to the Geneva farmer's market and I spied a donut truck - was sooooo good eating fresh, hot donuts by the lake. I had no idea a half-Ironman was going on right here at the lake. It made me want to do an Ironman for about a week, until I realized I would have to train for about 12 months. I am sticking to my usual workout routine instead! I would have give up time writing to train. Yeah… NOPE.
It feels like weeks ago, but it was only one week ago - that is how I know I am fully appreciating the moments in my life… when time slooooowssss down.
The trip to Muranda Cheese after the farmer's market was dreamy as always. Sipping wine while tasting all the cheeses is now one of my favorite things to do. We took our wine and sat on the deck overlooking the endless fields while music played in the background. Darby was with us as they are dog-friendly - they loved him! He even got a few bites of cheese from our cheese barista. I don’t know if cheese barista is a thing. I made it up!
Then accidentally happening upon the giant Amish market that I have only heard about was the icing on the cake that Saturday. We had bought crusty bread and 3 of the cheeses we tasted so the only thing missing was some deli chicken - that was dinner! I left my man and dog in the car and I quickly perused the massive market for 15 minutes. I'll get back there another time.
It was time to drive home and make delicious sandwiches with our goodies from Muranda.
Signing off as I am about to leave for another weekend adventure to enjoy…
What will it be? I still don’t know. The choices in Central New York and the Fingerlakes are endless. We have lots of lakes, waterfalls, trails, art, food, and gardens right in our backyard.
Let me know in the comments if this journal style is interesting. If it vibes well with readers, I will keep er’ going.
Until next time… enjoy the hell out of each moment.
